Another Quick Doodle

The rare times that I get to sit at home and doodle while watching tv are few and far between. But lately I've been trying to use them to good effect..at least by my standards. Here's one of the latest:

I have to remember to bring a sketchbook to the Pasadena Rock'n Comic Con so that Melody and I can fully entertain ourselves while working the GDG booth. Be sure to come by and say hello to us on Saturday between 10am-2pm! We'll laugh maniacally at you!

Beach Girl doodle

I'm fortunate enough to live a couple miles from the beach, and so I do a lot of bicycle riding and jogging there. This doodle was inspired by my beach wanderings. I'm still deciding whether to do a version of her in color or not.

New Magnets

Today I got two of the three new magnet designs I'm doing for this year:

I'm SOOPER stoked about them!

Don't know if they'll be available at Wondercon(depends on whether I can get the merch to the GDG gang in time), but they'll definitely be at Comic Con!

Cabaret

I had a rare space of time where I wasn't doing anything, and got suddenly inspired by 1920's Berlin cabarets:

It was fun to do!

Angel Food Cake

For the upcoming GirlsDrawinGirls dessert book, I was assigned, "Angel Food Cake". After much of the usual procrastination, I came up with a concept quickly and started building it in Illustrator. Everything was going fine until I got to the color of the background. Which one to pick?

First we have the gold background:

Then there's the greenish background:

And then a reddish background:

Decisions, decisions....

SDCC 09 Con Wrap up!

A huge thank you to everybody who stopped by and said hi at the Girls Drawin Girls booth this year! We had a wonderful time at con, sold lots of merch, and had a great time meeting all the fans of GDG!

If you're still interested in purchasing one of our photo Pin-Up calendars, we do have a few extra left. Details to follow soon!  Art calendars will be available through January 2010 (or until they're gone!)

We've already put down our reservation for SDCC '10... only 361 days to go!! ; D (ducks from all the objects thrown my way from the exhausted con-goers)

Here's Sandra Frame as Maude Lebowski and Brittney Lee workin' the booth!

Voe de Doe...

A quickie flapper sketch done at last week's Drink and Draw:

Not the best example of the use of a brush pen, but it's my favorite new drawing toy.

Yeehaw!

For a few years now I've been known to paint on toilet seats. Here's my cowgirl example done for a friend of mine who has an art gallery in Sacramento:

Scribble-tastic!

This sketch is actually inspired by the Japanese "lucky cat" with the waving paw instead of Julie Newmar, but what the heck, this one is still alright:

True story: the Husband and I were at Comic Con in the late 90's, the year when the flick, To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar came out. We had our little professional passes and went back to the green room to grab some grub. As the Husband sat down, he pointed over to another table and said, "Whoa, look at that dude over there!"

I look to where he's pointing and I see...Julie Newmar. Oh, Husband! I corrected him quickly and ended up getting her signature on a couple of photos later that afternoon. No, I didn't tell her my story.
